Click for Virginia Beach ForecastVirginia Beach, with its proximity to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, is situated in a temperate climate zone. Oceanfront temperatures can be several degrees cooler than inland locations in the summer and several degrees warmer than those same locations in winter. Winters are short in duration and quite mild, while spring and fall tend to linger with grand bursts of color. There are just enough seasonal differences that local residents seem to appreciate each season and look forward to the next.

Winter in Virginia Beach - December is ushered in with a fantastic drive-through light show on the boardwalk, where the dull colors of winter become warmed by the splendor of Christmas. Snow, being a rare event at the beach, usually leaves little more than a trace. The warm ocean and bay waters temper the level of snowfall as well as the winter climate along Virginia's southern coast. That's the prime reason the oceanfront and coastal parks can claim the distinction of being the northernmost limit where subtropic and temperate plants grow and thrive together. During most winter days, the temperatures will warrant wearing a medium to lightweight jacket. Throughout the seasonal cool down, daylight hours are warm and comfortable enough for a great round of golf or an excursion off the coast to see humpback whales. Sunset brings the expected chill to the air, which makes settling down to a warm and cozy, romantic evening around a luscious seafood dinner quite pleasurable.

Spring in Virginia Beach - The trees bud, flowers burst open and before you know it, it's garden week in Virginia. The variety of flowers and trees in the area endow this season with a long reign of floral elegance. Most of the time, temperatures are quite pleasant. Then there are those days that waft in on balmy sunlit breezes, filled with the promise of things yet to come. That's when you know summer is just around the corner. Say golf, and you'll find it in abundance. Say sightseeing, and you'll have more than enough sights awaiting you. Say fun, and there’s the prospect of a day trip to Busch Gardens which will keep the whole family happy! Spring at the beach is delightful, romantic and full of promise for a special trip!

Summer in Virginia Beach - You are in the sunny south. If it rains, it usually comes in the form of thunderstorms that creep up at the close of day. So for daylight hours, plan a day of fun in the sun! Make a week of it, because there’s lots to do. If the temperature soars, take the plunge into the ocean or visit Ocean Breeze Fun Park for instant relief. Most summer days start with a warm sunny morning, perfect for an early game of golf. The day then flows into a grand afternoon, perfect for exploring the area. If there is a sprinkle, go shopping or visit one of the many indoor attractions like the Virginia Marine Science Museum or Nauticus. The evening usually brings on a breeze, which is conducive to dining at one of the outdoor boardwalk cafes or catching a live show at the amphitheater. You’ll find a variety of ways to top off a fabulous day!

Autumn in Virginia Beach - September ushers in what local residents call the Special Season. Crowds thin and the locals step out to enjoy the great weather and many attractions the beach has to offer. Join in the September celebration of the Neptune Festival, when days sparkle with activities and spectacular events. Starting in mid- October, the brilliant foliage remains a visual focal point well into November. It's one of the most beautiful times of year and probably the best time to take in a round of golf or explore Back Bay with its wildlife and migratory birds. Daytime temperatures are mild and night frosts may not appear until late December. For autumn’s gorgeous days and comfortable nights, a sweater or light jacket will suffice for almost any activity.
